2014 Charity Golf Day raises £2,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support

The Inside Networks 2014 Charity Golf Day raised £2,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support, taking the total since the event started to a massive £37,000! This fantastic sum was the culmination of a great day’s golfing at the prestigious Hanbury Manor PGA Championship Course in Ware, Hertfordshire, which was followed by a three-course dinner, prize giving and charity raffle.

Co-hosted by Computacenter, LMG and CNet Training, almost 100 people turned out to make this year’s event the best ever and it provided a welcome opportunity for all areas of the industry to network. The hotly contested team competition saw Team LMG emerge victorious, closely followed in second place by Team CNet 2 and Team Computacenter and Team Corning tying in third place. The day’s Best Individual accolade went to Richard Watson of Team LMG.

Winner of the Nearest the Pin competition sponsored by CNet Training was Jamie Allender from Team Computacenter, while Darren King of Team CNet 1 won the CNet Training sponsored Longest Drive accolade. The Slice Golf and Events sponsored Beat the Pro competition saw Rob Brown – also known as Tricky Rob – complete a number of astounding feats, including hitting balls on the Par 3 11th on one leg from a step ladder! Seven people emerged victorious, with Geoff Davis of Curran IT being judged the winner overall.

‘I would like to extend my thanks to all the players, sponsors and organisers – in particular LMG, CNet Training, Slice Golf and Events, Mills and Fusion – for making the event such a success,’ commented Rob Shepherd, editor of Inside_Networks. ‘The event is always a great deal of fun and being able to raise a considerable sum of money for such a worthwhile and important cause as Macmillan Cancer Support is an amazing achievement.’

On being presented with the cheque for £2,600, Moira Cromie, Macmillan Cancer Support’s Hertfordshire and Essex fundraising manager, said, ‘There are two million people living with cancer in the UK at the moment and we want to be there for them when they need support. The money raised could provide 10 palliative care nurses for a day helping terminally ill patients and their families, or fund our support line for a couple of hours, providing information and, emotional, practical and financial help.’

Plans are already underway for the Inside_Networks 2015 Charity Golf Day and the date will be announced soon.
